Palo Alto is a much sought after for it's schools & community.  The city is composed of many
different neighborhoods (

architectural designs predominate in certain neighborhoods: Eichlers, Brown & Kaufman,
Stern & Price, California Bungalow, Craftsman, Ranch, Mediterranean, and Contemporary
styles are just some of the architecture styles you can find in Palo Alto.   Out of about
19,000 single family homes, around 500 come up for sale in any year.  

Schools

The vast majority of Palo Alto is in the Palo Alto Unified School district, as well as parts of
Los Altos Hills.   There are two small neighborhoods bordering San Antonio Rd which are a
part of other school districts (
Los Altos School District & Mountain View-Whisman School
District).   A high percentage of houses are sold to families who buy in Palo Alto for its
schools; one city council member described the community as "a city run by adults for its

City

The city has a downtown in the north part of the city, a 2nd shopping district along
California Ave, several neighborhood shopping centers, a major shopping mall (Stanford
Shopping Center).  The city offers many services - from the numerous parks, Junior
Museum, Theatre, its own utility system, to a development center where you can go to get
questions answered about how your property can be developed. (
